THE BOTANICAL GIANT IGUANAS

A group of friends were sailing around Eluthera in the Bahamian Islands, many years ago...... we decided to go ashore to explore the tiny island and have a picnic on it's beach.......the island seemed deserted, but for these colorful plants that were as varied as a rainbow's spectrum......Suddenly, a hoard of colorful giant Iguana's bounded over the dunes......we were freaked out by their aggressiveness and fled to the ocean, where we watched them devour our picnic.....it was more amusing than frightening, actually........they reminded me of a less sophisticated variety of the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal!

watercolored jewel

although there are more sophisticated and refined buddist images in my collection of Buddist Art, this elaborately detailed watercolor remains one of my two favorites, the other being an even more involved Balinese painting...... this little painting has a joyous, even amusing and light-hearted feeling.....and...it's in an equally over-the-top carved and gilt frame........

ZINNIAS

with the heat of summer, tall, slender-stemmed zinnias have replenished the waning color with their clusters of curled petals and crisp foliage....the black gladiolus is in no hurry this year......
