for my home is full of assemblages such as this....hundreds of them....
it is an automatic process, this assembling of disparate objects.....a
form of OCD, probably.

DETAIL OF A SYMBOLIST PAINTING
I traded an Austrian silver candlestick for this old painting.....
no signature....it continues to speak to me, almost 40 years
after it was first hung on the walls of my abode.....

flowers from a rainy afternoon
the gentle rain has taken the lilac flowers to the ground...
and the yellow and gold narcissus....the wet grass is strewn
with hundreds of pink camellia blossoms....the new growth
is bursting from the old rose bushes and the birds are
singing in concert.....moss is covering the aging garage
roof.....the gull-gray sky is a perfect, neutral background
for the last, winter clouds.....soon the hummingbirds will arrive....

PERSIAN HOOKAH
During the 1970's, I collected all sorts of paraphernalia like this.....the depicted hookah, made from ancient iron....inlaid with silver, is the only one that i kept. ....I bought it in London, from a rich Euro-trash hippie that i met in an opium den, a few miles from Windsor Palace.....where, incidentally, we viewed QEII, standing in a window, smoking a cigarette! I hitched a ride to Slough, where we scored some material, from a groundskeeper at Saint Laurence's Church, to waft from the beautiful instrument.....
later, I had to attend a dinner at Lloyds of London, and view the Debeers collection of coloured diamonds......through somewhat of a purple haze......
