THE LOWE MILL'S BOILER ROOM

ONE OF THE MANY NOW ABANDONED MILLS IN HUNTSVILLE.......COTTON AND MILLING WERE REPLACED AS HUNTSVILLE BECAME, WITH ABMA, REDSTONE ARSENAL AND GEORGE MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER.........ROCKET CITY.......BOURGEOISIE COUPLES NOW DINE WHERE THEIR ANCESTORS ONCE TOILED FROM DAWN TILL DARK IN THE FAINT ILLUMINATION OF THESE DICKENSONIAN SWEAT SHOPS...... MOST AMERICANS NURTURE THE EVEN MORE HORRID SHOPS OF THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES, WITH LITTLE SENSE OF REMORSE OR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.........

THE BIG SPRING

This photograph of THE BIG SPRING, in downtown Huntsville, reminds me of King Ludwig's Grotto within his Castle, Neuschwanstein. We had Swans, too, that dipped their beaks in the icey spring water that supplied our city with it's then delicious nectar from beneath the bedroock.......the addition of chlorine and flouride made our wonderful water taste just like the water everywhere else.....alas!

THE CAVES OF MADISON COUNTY

Posted by Picasa
THERE ARE MANY BEAUTIFUL CAVES NEAR MY CHILDHOOD HOME, INCLUDING "CATHEDRAL CAVERNS" ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MONTE SANO MOUNTAIN. IT WAS PROBABLY RATHER DANGEROUS AND UNSUPERVISED WHEN I WAS TEN, BUT THAT DIDN'T KEEP US KIDS AWAY! MOTHER AND I JOURNEYED THROUGH A CAVE ON HER 75TH BIRTHDAY...ONE THAT SHE SAID HAD BEEN A HIDEOUT FOR JESSE JAMES........I FOUND A FLINT ARROWHEAD THAT MY FATHER HAD FASHIONED INTO A BROOCH FOR MOTHER.....I NOW HAVE THE BROOCH.......

MISS IRENE JONES BALLET AND TAP SCHOOL

I was 13 or 14 when this picture was taken.....too old for this group..... In 7th-12th grade, however, I became a Ballroom dancer.....although dancing was not quite the fashionable trend it has become today.....especially in a small Southern town.......The Mickey Mouse Show put dancing and singing youths on the map, I think.....and the Circus was always an inspiration for our costume designer, Miss Alta Trotman.
