I loaned this Carrington & Co., Regent Street, Edwardian tiara for an Atlanta Debutante photo shoot......but did not give any 'instructions' regarding the appropriateness or propriety or context for 'wearing it'......nor did I photograph this dour debutante who is sporting it for the 'Society Page' of 'the Paper' or 'The Season'.....At least, the 'stylist' could have brushed her hair through the 'jewelled hair ornament' rather than having the 18-year old wear it like a 'hat'......Where was Ann Oliver, when she was needed by her L’Ecole des IngĂ©nues-Atlanta Finishing School! A year later, one of my middle-age clients placed the tiara on her head and instructed me to call her 'cheap-ass' husband, who had been having an affair with a much younger woman, and inform him that his wife was going to divorce him and sue his for 'all he was worth'....unless...he purchased this tiara for his estranged wife....and lots of other 'queenly' jewels.......I called him, explaining his pissed-off wife's position, whenupon, he rushed from his office, arriving at my antiques store..minutes later....to purchase the tiara, in its original Carrington & Co, presentation box and request that be wrapped in my high-end customized wrap and ribbon.....he also purchased an expensive Edwardian ring and a pair of complementary platinum earrings.....(far more practical and less costly than a d-i-v-o-r-c-e, he reckoned).... A couple of months later, his wife died from metastatic breast cancer...and lack of palliative care, i'd bet. Her grateful husband gave the jewels to his young girlfriend......
