JOHN PAUL MILLER BROOCH THAT I BOUGHT IN CLEVELAND, OHIO A HALF CENTURY AGO......I CRINGED A BIT TO DISCOVER THAT ITS SUBSEQUENT OWNER'S MIDDLE AGED CHILDREN HAVE LITTLE INTEREST IN THE BEAUTIFUL OBJET DE VIRTU

It is through this infamously painstaking process (involving the fusion of micro-sized golden grains to a metal surface) that John created the bumpy, caviar-bead-like finish seen ornamenting the sinewy tentacles of THIS stylized ‘Cephalapod’ pendant; the creature sporting a rippling cloisonne body SO free-flowing in design that it could almost be mistaken for Mokume Gane!
Peruse John’s portfolio, and you’ll see delicate scorpions, sumptuous moths and gothic spiders all with intricately enameled carapaces and golden pollen-dusted limbs; a magic-realist menagerie of metal minibeasts that look impossibly ALIVE with movement.
