PILLOWS

THERE WAS A TIME PERIOD, IN THE EARLY 80'S, WHEN I BECAME TOTALLY INFATUATED WITH EXOTIC TENTS AND HIGHLY DECORATED PILLOWS, IN MY EFFORTS TO CREATE THE SULTAN'S PALACE LOOK.....ONE OF THE LARGE DEPARTMENT STORES...I THINK IT WAS NEIMAN'S....FILLED AN ENORMOUS ROOM WITH A PALATIAL ARABIAN PRINCE'S TENT, FURNISHED TO THE NINES WITH GORGEOUS CARPETS, HANGING LANTERNS AND GOLDEN ORNAMENTATIONS...THE WHOLE SCHEHERAZADE FANTASY......AND I LONGED FOR THE ARABIAN NIGHT'S LOOK, HAVING SEEN PHOTOGRAPHS OF ALAISTER McKELVIE'S HOUSE-SIZE 18TH CENTURY EMBROIDERED TENT, PURCHASED BY MRS. THOMAS KIERNAN, FROM A 1921 AUCTION AT THE ANDERSON GALLERIES.... BUT COMPROMISED ON THE HODGE-PODGE THAT NOW OCCUPIES MY RESIDENCES......(THE PILLOW IS ASIAN, BY THE WAY....NOT PERSIAN OR ARABIAN).....
