DIGITAL WATCHES AND OBSESSIVE COLLECTOR COMPULSION

In 1972 I had two watches, a gold Elgin...given to me in 3rd grade as a bribe for me to recommend a particular suitor with prospects of marriage to my widowed mother and a Hamilton "Piping Rock" left to me by a deceased relative.....I did not even consider another watch or pay any attention to them in jewelry stores.......However, in 1975, while visiting my grade school classmate Raymond Wilensky's Dad, who owned the old downtown pawn shop, Mr. Wilensky offered to sell me a box of old watches that had been in his ancient safe for decades........"Why not?", I thought.....for he was selling them to me for the value of the gold, then relatively inexpensive anyway.......I kept 3 of the watches for myself......This event triggered my "collecting" gene and I began to accumulate several watches a year until the present time......I can't seem to stop buying watches, even though there are hundreds that are never worn....After all, my cellphone has a "clock" in it, as do all the computers, radios and even the wall thermometers and barometers.......who really needs more than a couple of decorative and functional watches as fashion accessories? Yeah, I keep asking myself that! I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of a new moonphase watch and the two digital watches pictured above.....aren't they neato?
