low lighting

Last evening I lit 200 candles, a dozen or so oil lamps, miscellaneous aesthetic lamps and all the built-in house lights, dimmed 80%......to achieve the "Barry Lyndon" effect, as I call this......Even with computerized lighting controls, it takes half an hour to turn the illuminating sources on and off,  and I spend a great deal of time adjusting the "lighting"......I am still shocked when I go to someone's home where the lights are simply "turned on"! Christmas seems to be a time when even the most ordinary people seek aesthetic, if sometimes garish, lighting scenarios; so I am much happier with the lighting of the Holidays.......
