THE OLD FERN'S HISTORY IN ATLANTA.........

This old fern, once a 'toss out' at The Indoor Garden, where I once made bonsai for Buckhead ladies to kill with either abuse, neglect or 'over-watering', has been happily inhabiting it's old Chinese porcelain planter for 42 years......before this, it began its 'life in Atlanta' at K-Mart, where it had been tossed to a dumpster, having been both sun-burned and drowned with a careless water hosing.....after i retrieved the fern from the dumpster, it was moved to my 'cork wall' where i mounted orchids, bromeliads and ferns with copper wire.....then, during the turmoil of moving from one place to another, then to Europe, New York, Huntsville, then....finally...back to Atlanta, the fern was housed with various friends, who 'kept it alive'.....When my friend, Alison McLaughlin, died, the fern came back to me.....in good health, for Alison also had 'a way with plants'.....The fern then lived at my Condo at The DeSoto, where i visited it....and many other plants....while i lived with friends during the Condo's remodeling....Finally, in 1984, the plant, again, moved....this time, in it's new, beautiful antique Chinese porcelain bonsai 'pot'....to my current home......where it has produced many 'offspring' that live in a dozen other homes of friends.....it appears to love basking in the light that comes through the old, 'hexagonally mounted' round French stained glass window that has 'traveled' with me for half a century, bearing a musket ball 'wound' from it's own long history......The Fern is spending this Spring/Summer/Fall outside.....more beautiful than it's ever been......
